Is that a fact?

*Emma's party was great! I post ASAP, and/or as soon as the Motrin kicks in. Getting old is for the birds.*

Thursday John informed me after coming home from work that he "was going to kick my @ss."

The guy really loves me, I tell ya!

Anyway, when I asked him WHY he would want to kick it, he said it was because he had forgotten to take the White N' Nerdy MP3 off of his flash drive. The flash drive I used to transfer the MP3 to my computer with. So, a coworker was retrieving a file from the flash drive and mentioned it. "What's this White N' Nerdy thing?" So, he played it for her... and it would seem that he had that song going through his head for the rest of his work day. *snicker*

Of course, I was howling, and somehow I managed to say-well, on the 3rd try - " I was just thinking about blogging about this, and I was going to write "I think I could take you.' " :D he got a good laugh out of that. I think I'm off the hook for burning that song into his subconscious, except now he is humming I Hope You Dance. *SNORT!*

Friday night, we dined and feasted at Quizno's. While chewing and enjoying my elegant dinner of Prime Rib (on a bun), Anna mentioned that she had 2 grandmas. One was nice and one was mean. I said that that was true and that I tried really hard not to be like my mother... and I wasn't perfect either.

"Every day is a new day, "Anna sighed, with an air of authority.

I laughed and asked who she had heard that from, fully expecting her to say she had heard it from me or John, or her Nana at the very least.

In a sing-song, yet matter of fact tone she said, "Chicken Little."

"That's pretty sage advice, coming from a cartoon, " John mused.

And from a 6 yr old, I would think. ;)

Happy Birthday, baby girl!

Emma, I couldn't say it any better than Lee Ann's beautiful tribute to mothers and daughters, but I hope I can do it some justice.

When your grandpa died, we had so many thoughts and emotions swirling around in our hearts and heads, and there were a lot of unanswered questions. We grieved. We faced issues regarding dad's greedy family and girlfriend, and soon grief gave way to anger.

After miscarrying just three days before your sisters 3rd birthday, and over 3 years of coming to terms that we were meant to have an only child... After watching grandpa slowly succumb to cancer and finally leave this world for a better place... YOU came.

Just one short week after your grandpa died- and 4 1/2 months after losing a baby, we found out that you were strong enough to be here. Even as a little seed, you showed your tenacity and strength and held on inside of me like so many others were not able to do. I know your grandpa would get a kick out of knowing that, and knowing you... knowing that the family Stubborn Gene lived on through you, as it does your daddy and sister. :)

That week was one heck of an emotional ride, and finding out about you stopped us dead in our tracks. In one short week, grief and anger turned to tentative joy, then elation. Not tentative over you sweets, but I was so afraid of losing again... I was almost too afraid to be happy at first, not to mention feeling overwhelmed with all that had happened in the span of a week.

But as I said, you're one tough cookie. There is no doubt in my mind that you were so needed and wanted, and so meant to be apart of this family, and you weren't about to let a little thing like endometriosis stand in your way...

I watched you grow so fast, learn all of your sisters mannerisms- including the more difficult ones (which she probably learned from her momma). I cried with you when you hurt yourself, laughed with you when you made funny faces, when you learned that bodily functions were indeed funny and told 3/4's of a knock knock joke. I lied awake at night watching over you when you were sick and restless, and I was too sick with worry to sleep.

Emma, I wouldn't trade a single day, a single moment. Good and bad, ups and downs... they are all part of you... and just like I have told your big sister:

There is nothing you could ever do to make me stop loving you.

Happy 2nd birthday, sweet baby girl.

Love, Bubba (aka momma)

Hold on, I'm thinking... this may take a minute.

A few days ago I told you that my blogging buddy Pippajo gave me the
.

Pippajo and I have a few things in common such as our love of The Sims 2 (though I doubt seriously that either of us plays as much as we would like), blogging (of course!), we are both Dork Bloggers... and we have a mutual Dork crush on Conan O'Brien.

I am always flattered (and at times flabbergasted) when someone gives me an award because, well, quite frankly I don't see how I am any better than any other blogger out there. My schtick is nothing new to the blogging world and most of my material has been born of my "middle child" syndrome. :D

That being said, I have such a problem with accepting a compliment, that even know I am unable to accept this award without a bit of self deprecation. I have issues. BUT- I am flattered, and accept this award with gratitude. Thank you Pippajo!

Here are the rules for this award:
1. If, and only if, you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think,
2. Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme,
3. Optional: Proudly display the 'Thinking Blogger Award' with a link to the post that you wrote

Let me first say that this was very hard, you may not know this about me but I find it difficult to make decisions. All of the blogs I read are thought provoking in one way or another, that's why I read them! There are so many to choose from, so many different styles, different types of blogs...

So without further ado, these are the top 5 blogs that make me not only think but also make me feel:

1. Holly is everything I would love to be as a mom, human and writer. Sure, she's probably not perfect but she is perfect to me. :D Holly's blog is so much more than that, and she is always writing something funny and thought provoking, and she inspires me in so many ways. Her writing flows, and is so gracious and eloquent- it doesn't matter what she writes about, it's always beautiful.*I also give this award to Holly for Thinking that I am worth the read, despite what she might find here at the circus. LOL!*

2. Just as Pippajo said on her blog, there is no rule against "tagging" the tagger... I have to say that the very first post I read on her blog was so heart wrenching and real, her post made me cry. But it also made me think very hard about what is important in life. Since then she has continued to astound me with her resilience of spirit, and the beauty and depth of her heart and soul.

3. Jenny has go to be hands down, one of the smartest people I blogging know. And one of the funniest! Jenny doesn't shy away from complex and hilarious issues such as knowing when you are a grown up, Government by the people, and which is worse: poor grammar or poor manners. *The last one is a tough for me, since I am guilty of both. ;)* Best of all, Jenny doesn't mind "poking the comfort zone with sharp, hot sticks". She isn't afraid to lay it on the line, and doesn't take guff for her beliefs. I totally dig that about Jenny.

4. Robin and I are like old buddies... The kind that don't get to talk as much as we'd like, but we do try to make the time when we can. :D Robin's is another writer of such great talent. She writes what she feels, and doesn't leave a thing to be desired. Robin is another blogger who can put anything into words and it sounds so elegant.. but truly heart felt and brutally honest.

5. Last but not least, Island Girl is again, one of those people who are the whole package if you ask me. Just as I said about Holly, though I'm sure she has her flaws like the rest of us, she is perfect to me. :D Island Girl always leaves me with a light heart, no matter what she blogs about... and one of my favorite things about her blog is that she asks for the reader's opinion, and genuinely wants to know. Aside from being the creator of the always informative, creative, and humorous Carnival of Family Life- Local Girl is always so thoughtful and giving, and yet she makes me ponder what is right and wrong with the world with her daily life posts.

All of these people are bright spots in the universe for me along with the other friends I've made, and to all of my blogging buddies... I'd list you all if I could!

On a side note, I won't be blogging for the next 2 days or so. Emma's 2nd birthday is tomorrow and her party is Saturday. The next 48 hours will be filled with what I like to call PPP or Pre-Party Panic. ;)

OK, yes I forgot... of course I will have to post pics of the little pooper tomorrow, from birth day to birthday!

White & Nerdy indeed.

I was adding the mp3 White & Nerdy to Dork Bloggers, and just a few minutes ago I was checking to make sure it was playing correctly.

As my idol Weird Al Yankovicwas singing the part in the beginning I'm so White N' Nerdy, Anna said, "Just like you!"

And we both burst into laughter.

If your 6 yr old tells ya, it's gotta be true.

I'm just saying.

As if there was any doubt. ;)

Dork origins, Mert style

Over at Dork Bloggers, my home away from home ;) we like to do a little thing called Dork Origins where we explain (as best as we can) the reasons for our inherent dorkiness. Dork war stories if you will. We are casualties of Dork.

When I look back at my life, and all it's dorkfulness, I have no doubt of where my dork genes originate. That's right folks I said genes, plural. I think we all know by now that I am above average in the dork department.

I believe what they say is true to some degree... that we are a product of our environment, and I wonder to myself if the fact that my mother (whom I refer to most times as the "egg donor" because I hate calling her mom, because she sucked and doesn't deserve to be called that) is NUTS. Seriously, she has papers.

Anyway, I probably could keep you here all day reading about my dork origins, but I will tell you about the ones that are most prominent in my mind.

When I was about 15, my parents had decided that we kids needed a little culture and took us away from the redneck town we lived in to Annapolis. Annapolis is a beautiful city on the Chesapeake Bay that is famous for its quaint cobbled and bricked streets lined with town houses (for Yuppies), it's inner harbor with elegant restaurants and bay side views of the sail boats going by (owned by Yuppies), and the Naval Academy (which often housed of the spawn of Yuppies).

Being poor and unrefined, my mother (who had a nose for sniffing out bargains and freebies) thought that the best place for used to get a little taste of culture would an art gallery in downtown Annapolis. This art gallery just happened to be serving free wine and cheese! Well, imagine that. Me and my older brother were allowed to have a sip of free wine with our free cheese and crackers. Meanwhile, the egg donor enjoyed quite a bit of free wine with her free cheese and crackers.

My mother, always appreciative of a good piece of art, pointed to a painting of the Annapolis inner harbor and said, "Wook at da pwee-wee wah-wah!"

Roughly translated to : "Look at the pretty water!"

My dad quickly grabbed her by the hand and dragged her out of the art gallery, and we kids followed closely behind with our eyes on the floor. My dad- having had considerable experience with free alcohol and it's affects- decided that mommy dearest should probably walk it off. My parents came up with yet another brilliant idea... why not take the whole family- including more than a little tipsy and inappropriate mommy- to the actual inner harbor? The place where the affluent strolled, and maybe even enjoyed a few quiet moments on their sailboat or yacht, and where Naval Academy plebes and midshipmen sauntered in groups or with dates.

Sure, why not.

We went to a nautical store. This store had in its window a brass door knocker that my mother had been eying, in the shape of and anchor. My dad dragged her to the register, and my mother - the drunken egg donor- was elated and very pleased with herself for finally being able to afford the thing she had coveted for over a year.

As we walked by our station wagon on our way to a hat store called The Belfry- which I assure you, stuck out like... well a semi-redneck family trying to pretend that they were well off enough to even be there mingling with Maryland's upper crust- and just as a group of really cute midshipman walked by, mother loudly slurred that she needed to "put her knockers in the car".

The whole of Annapolis stopped to stare, and a hush fell over the city- but only after a collective gasp that was heard around the world. I looked over to the midshipmen, who were all decked out in their dress whites and plainly said,

"I do not know that woman."

I did an about face and walked into another shop.

AND FINALLY, a story that I recant with fondness and a light heart... well because it involves my dad...

Lets travel back in time to when I was about 12. My step-dad- who raised me from the age of 6, so I really consider him my dad, and was a geek computer programmer in the Air Force- was outside building his new fabulous tool shed. This shed was not just a shed, and in actuality it was probably at least 1/2 the size of the main floor of our house. With some help from friends, we had a foundation of cinder blocks and plywood over the support beams of the floor. My dad was happily working away outside on a sweltering morning as I brought his steaming cup of coffee out to him, because you see- my dad was a proud Okie, and drank coffee all year round.

*Edit to add: To clarify, as I said in comments "BTW, it's only redneck if you're sweating profusely, wearing jeans with no shirt in the middle of summer, AND drinking coffee. :D"

While I was walking out to him, I noticed he was waving a hand around violently. I handed him his cup and giggled when I asked what he was doing. Evidently there was a big, ugly horsefly whizzing around him, stopping occasionally to light on his body and bite him. Oh, I said, well here's your coffee, dad.

I walked back inside, and a few minutes later we heard a yell come from outside. We ran outside to see if dad was hurt. It turns out that dear old dad had been fighting that horsefly for about a half an hour, and my dad had gotten so annoyed that he had even taken a couple of swings at the horsefly with the hammer in his hand. He whacked at the coarse and ugly bug with the hammer and missed several times.

"I finally got it, though, " My dad smiled and chuckled, thrusting his mighty hammer in the air in triumph with one hand and cradling his leg with the other, "But unfortunately it had landed on my shin."

Surprise, surprise!

My aunt is always sending me cool stuff via email... This is one of them! If you've ever wondered what exactly goes on on your computer in the wee hours, check this out.

She also sent me some Easter funnies, I think we all know that this would be me :D

And the goof ball in me just loves this one:
I have been a little behind in blogging these days, as I have said on several blogs- I am trying to better balance real life and blogging, and blogging about real life. ;) That being said, I have yet to find a happy medium. Maybe it's Spring and her newly budded charm, I dunno. We just want to be out side, is that so wro-ung?

Anywhoo, tangents and digressions aside *cheeky grin, are they ever really aside with me?*,I haven't gotten in as much blogging as I have wanted to keeping busy, and haven't really read any blogs since last Wednesday ( I even forgot that last Friday was Anna's Spring Picture day. I felt so bad, but at least she was wearing one of her favorite High School Musical shirts- hey look at that! Another tangent!)... imagine my surprise when I read my new blogging buddy and fellow Dork Blogger's post about me. Pippajo was tagged and awarded this prestigious award. She then had to tag 5 other people that she felt wrote thought (amongst other things) provoking posts.

*cough* Now, I don't know exactly if that is true in my case, but since Pippa felt enough about my writing to shout it from her blog's roof top, I am very deeply honored! This is what Pippajo had to say about moi:
2. Mert at Almost Somewhat Positive. Mert is my newest discovery (I don't branch out of my blog ruts very easily) and manages to strike just the right balance between hilarious and sobering. She doesn't shy away from the often difficult realities of life but always manages to put a humorous spin on them. Mert also has mad graffix skillz that leave me in awe. She can design buttons and everything!

Thank you again, Pippa... I am really glad that we met. Your kind words are so appreciated... I am so feeling the (dork) love. :D BTW, Conan! That's all I'm going to say, LOL! Plus, who can ever get enough sidebar bling?

I'll be writing another post within the next few days about my five, so stay tuned. Speaking of tangents...As seen at my blogging buddy Michelle's blog, I just had to try it. Actually, if you really want to know, I was nervous. I don't know if you read this post, (you probably haven't because it was my second blog post) I have a little theory:

Even though the MISU and I are fairly intelligent people, we have had 2 children now. Each child is the equivalent of eating paint chips for 2 years straight, you know, when you figure in sleep deprivation, yelling, screaming, barfing, boog removal and tantrums. 2 years of paint chips. That has to equal at least a 25 point deduction off the old intelligence score. So 2 children X 2 years of paint chips... Anyway given the fact that we collectively have been out of school for about 30 years, my penchant for terrible spelling and punctuation... Well you get the picture. We ain't as smart as we used to be.

<span class=

I'm a little smarter than I thunk I were. On paper anyway. Err, I mean pixel.

Waiting for the other shoe to drop... And a public service announcement

Don't forget to get your Dork on on Friday the Dorkteenth!

Well, lets' see... 2 weeks ago our Isuzu Rodeo was towed from the side of our house, on the street. Why? Because my husband put the clutch to the floor and there it stayed, 3 months ago. He barely made it home and wasn't able to pull drag it's sorry butt 12 more feet into the drive way. So, 3 weeks ago it was towed early morning. The tow company didn't bother to leave notice or anything and I had to call around town to find it. Evidently, on of our neighbors complained that it had been sitting on the street for 3 months. We still haven't been able to find the time to get it towed to a garage, and despite me telling the hubs that we were probably accruing storage fees, we owe 20$ a day now.

A week after our vehicle disappeared, our water heater kicked the bucket. That was fun.

This last Wednesday, my pc went on strike. Yup, she wouldn't even start for me. Luckily, I have a laptop as a back up. Later that day (yes, the very same day), my washing machine- after only 5 3/4 years- decided that she no longer had the will to live... and died mid cycle. I told my husband that all I was waiting for now was for a body part to fall off, and the sky to start falling.

My dryer has been a disgruntled employee for years, and likes to scorch our clothes in spots. I think it might have something to do with that time Anna left a whole package of gum in her pockets, and I took an hour out of my busy day to scrape it all out of the dryers innards. Evidently I missed a spot, but no matter how hard I try I can't find it.

So last night, we dropped a lot more money than we wanted to on a new washer and dryer. My husband and I are the worst when it comes to purchasing big ticket items. We are those people that reason " Well, for just a little bit more, we can get X, Y, and Z". We want a washer that is energy and water efficient, since the washer we had before was front loading and had those features. The problem is that since my barely adolescent washer was front loading and pooped out I didn't want front loading. Before we knew it , we were looking at these. Yes, an electronic display w/d set that talks to each other. {8B They are energy and water efficient, and eventually will pay for themselves in saving. I haven't worked out exactly how many years it will take, but I'm hoping it's less than 20 years.

My MIL and husband immediately started to joke WITH the sales person that I'm such a geek that I could and would find a way to blog from them. My husband continued by saying, "I can see you hooking your laptop up to it and typing 'Do my laundry, beeyotch!' "

I smirked and said that, no- I would actually type "Do my laundry, beeyotch. LOL! :) "

Anywho, at least the MIL lent us her credit card for this store otherwise we would be SOL. To me , it seems frivolous at first to pay that much, but are getting a 200$ trade in discount, and we are getting mail in rebates for delivery, 100$ for buying the "elite" line, and 50$ from the power company for buying energy efficient... all tolled 385$. *which is probably what I could have spent on a washer in the first place, if my husband and I weren't such appliance snobs*

All of that for a 4.0 cu washer. I'll be able to double my loads, leaving me more time. What will I do with that extra time? I don't really think it will save me time, but my laundry time overall in length will be reduced. I mean, really... I still have to fold all the laundry right? It's not like the clothes come out folded for me. ;)

Now that I have completely bored my reader to tears, and I don't even know if you have made it this far...

As I was trimming Anna's toe nails today- one of those must do chores that parents and kids alike detest, along with ear cleaning and nose picking assistance- and shortly after a shard of toe nail hit me in the eye, and my eye began to water profusely... I decided to make an announcement.

Please- before taking those clippers in hand- PLEASE , for the love of Krispy Kreme, put your protective eye wear on!

I think I'm going to write my congressman. We parents need and deserve hazard pay. Don't even get me started on body fluids.

It's all fun and games (not really) until somebody loses an eye.

3WW

Scroll down for Wordless Wednesday.

Welcome to Three Word Wednesday.

Each week, Bone will post three (or more) random words. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write something using all of those words. It can be a few lines, a story, a poem, anything. This is a writing exercise. It doesn't have to be perfect. The idea is to let your mind wander and write what it will.

This week's words are:
Lounged
Slice
Knot

I decided to continue with the story I started 3WW with last week.

Being a messenger for the rich and famous definitely had it's perks, and though I worked for peanuts, the tips alone made up for all that I endured on a daily basis. Being one of the few female messengers in the city, I received my share of snide comments and foul language. Surprisingly, all of that paled in comparison to the attitudes I got from the "coiffed and manicured" that I would sometimes do a pick up for. Barely legal, these girls were eye candy for the rich older men they were married to. Yet they had the gall to judge me. Let me just say that the men always tip well, that is when they didn't have their wives doing the "drop". The girl brides would sometimes hand off or receive a package for their husbands and pocket part of my tip right in front of me.

I often wondered to myself what exactly was in those plain white envelopes, and brown paper wrapped boxes but I knew better that to let my curiosity get the best of me. I had a job to do and a portly cat to support, so I wasn't about to break the Messengers Code just to satisfy the devil on my shoulder.

I'd been working at Special Delivery for about 2 years when all of this started, when my search for Hope began. The owner Frank was a quiet guy. You didn't hear much from him unless you messed up a delivery, and though my job is not what you would call an ambitious one, I liked it a lot.

As I lounged on my bed, I could see through my window the intensely colorful Las Vegas sunset. My boss was a stickler for vacation time, his philosophy was "use it or lose it". We had 6 months to use our accrued vacation time, that was it. I had a week coming to me, and I had the itch, so why not Vegas? I could afford the Bellagio, but I decided to stay at The Luxor where I was a little more comfortable. I had been through the water feature more time than I could count, and though the Egyptian themed hotel seemed cheesy to most people, it was just the right amount of exotic for a practical gal like me.

The first order of business was to head over to the New York, New York Casino for a slice of Pizza Margherita at their restaurant Il Fornaio. My mouth watered just thinking of it! I thought about the three days ahead of me in Vegas, then the three I would spend at home recovering from over-indulgence... and instantly my stomach was in a tight knot. The pessimistic cynic in me never failed in the "half empty" department, and though my week away had just started, I was already telling myself that I would be back to work in 7 days.

I wish I could have turned my brain off for a few hours and enjoyed the moment, and enjoyed the bright lights and free drinks. I wish I could have known what the future had in store for me, because I would have taken in every moment and every interaction like it was to be my last.

I thought about this now, the uneventful vacation and the all that had happened since- and as I did I managed a muffled and tearful laugh as I struggled with the duct tape at my wrists.

One little slip up, the bending of a rule was all it took. The contents of that brown papered box was never meant for a lowly rookie messenger like me, or for any messenger for that matter. It's not my fault that Angel or Trixie- what ever the heck her name was- didn't tape the box correctly.

Note to self- Being stuffed in the trunk of a BMW, gagged and duct taped, is no way to live your life.

This is so embarrassing.

Please scroll down for Wordless Wednesday.

Ummm, I don't know quite how to put this... it's so humiliating. There is something seriously wrong with me. It makes me feel like less of a woman. *sniff*

I know that my husband reads my blog, but here it goes.

I have lost my desire, the desire for...

Chocolate.

I know, I know! I should seek help immediately! I don't know if it's because of recent illnesses like colds and a sinus infection I am getting over, I don't understand it! Actually, my desire for Chocolate has been on the gradual decline. My husband experienced a lack of desire for sweets starting about 5 years ago, so technically I am 2 years late.

Is this common? Has anyone else noticed the loss of attraction to Chocolate as they have gotten older? Weird. I feel so empty, yet relieved. *snort* It's bizarre, I haven't really bought any Chocolate in about 2 months- except for some Butter Fingers I bought to keep my salty pop corn company when we saw 300 a few weeks ago.

I have never really been big on candy and dessert unless it contained some form of chocolate... so this could be a good thing. I have a chance to actually lose some weight now.

Is my love affair with Chocolate finally over? Maybe I need to go see a therapist, I wonder if Dr. Ruth is available?

Dr. Baby Ruth, that is. ;)

BTW, is anyone else having problems with their yahoo email account? My is going ape-poop right now. :(

Wordless Wednesday- Figuring out the new digital camera...
