U Comment , I Follow

Have you noticed the fancy new graphic in my side bar? (BTW, I didn't make the original, but I did make a graphic by combining all of the colors ) It's an idea that by removing the ”nofollow” tag on your blog that you can share a little link love. By removing this tag , you are allowing the comment authors and their blog to get a reciprocating link back to them.

I believe the original explanation for needing this tag was to reduce spam, and to stop link farms from being able to keep having high page rankings and search results. I don't get a lot of blog spam to begin with but this tag certainly hasn't stopped spam on my blog.

So I'm jumping on the band wagon. I'm hoping- as others have said- that this will encourage lurkers to de-lurk. You leave me a comment, and you get a link back to your blog from you comment. It's that simple. This will in turn boost you page ranking therefore making it easier for people to find you site via search engine.

Here are a few articles on the "Do Follow" or the "U Comment, I Follow" topic:

Hi:
Not sure why you think this is a sarcastic post, I think it's real...

I also removed no follow code on my blog, but didn't post the visual yet. I'm not sure what the visual really does.

To avoid spam, my blog is set up to moderate comments. I don't get too many, but once in a while I do.
Thanks for posting.
Chris

I've seen this on other sites, and people mentioning that they were taking out the nofollow attribute, which yes, was initially used by google for spam reasons, but I never knew there was a movement. wow.

I've personally never used the nofollow attribute, since I never had a problem with spam, luckily. I'll probably have to make a post about this since, it's something to post about. LOL

Hmm, sounds good in theory. But when it comes to actually trying to use 'code' and 'tags' and things, my wee head starts to hurt! :) My HTML understanding is not quite as advanced as yours! I'll see if I can play around with it and figure it out...

I also moderate comments, but I do like this idea of the Ucomment/Ifollow. I will have to lok at it! :) You're always up on the technology!

Keep us updated and let us how it works out (ie - start getting more comment spam). I actually get a lot fo comment spam. Today I had to install a second filter because when I get up in the morning, there's over a hundred comments that need to be moderated because they might be spam - and almost all of them are spam.

:) I understand the whole "no follow" movement. But boy do I wish I had a problem with 100 spam comments on my blog. I know that it is a genuine problem for a lot of you but if it gets me more traffic b/c people know they are getting link love then bring it on!!!
